Movie fans will find out how far the apple has fallen from the tree when The Watchers, written and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan, opens in theaters this summer. Ahead of its release on June 14th, Warner Bros. has shared a trailer for the supernatural horror film starring Dakota Fanning. Watch it below.

Coming from M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter, The Watchers is based on A.M. Shine’s 2021 horror novel of the same name. It stars Fanning as a 28-year-old artist named Mina who gets stranded in a remote forest in western Ireland, where she becomes “trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.”

The trailer opens with Fanning sarcastically telling her parrot to “try not to die” before donning a wig for a night out on town. The clip then shows her character driving past a post littered with missing person flyers on the way to her getaway to the forest.

When Fanning’s car radio and phone signals are ominously scrambled, she makes the wise decision to step out into the dark forest to ask for help. Then, a mysterious woman surfaces out of nowhere and offers safety through a hidden door, introducing Fanning to a group of strangers.

In addition to Fanning, the cast features Georgina Campbell (Suspicion), Oliver Finnegan (Outlander), and Olwen Fouere (The Northman). M. Night Shyamalan produced his daughter’s directorial debut alongside Ashwin Rajan and Nimitt Mankad, with Jo Homewood and Stephen Dembitzer as executive producers.

Ishana won’t be the only daughter of M. Night Shyamalan to step into the spotlight this summer. Saleka Shyamalan will play pop star Lady Raven in the filmmaker’s upcoming horror flick, Trap, starring Josh Hartnett as an unexpected serial killer. Revisit the recently revealed trailer.

Both movies are part of M. Night Shyamalan’s first-look deal with Warner Bros., which he’s thus far using to advance the nepo baby discourse.
