Lynda Carter so moved by Navy video, Warner Bros. will send Wonder Woman to aircraft carrier homecoming

A Navy Exchange Service Command video has gone viral, organically, thanks to its heartwarming depiction of a son who thinks his Wonder Woman doll can relate messages to his deployed mother.

For us laypeople, Navy Exchange is a retail store that is owned and operated by the United States Navy, and it offers goods to active members of the military, retirees and some civilians on Navy installations in the U.S., Navy bases and Navy ships.

A heartwarming video featuring a Navy Exchange went quietly viral on Facebook, telling the story of a young boy who discovers a Wonder Woman doll and how it serves as a temporary stand-in for his mother, who is currently serving in the Navy.

The powerful commercial even drew attention from Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter. The OG Wonder Woman shared, “Thinking of all those serving our country who can’t be with their families this holiday season.”

“I am delighted with the response to the Navy’s production of this commercial,” Carter told Navy Times. “It has gone viral outside the military, and I’m so proud to be a small part of elevating the valor of women in uniform.”

The feedback for the commercial has been so positive that Warner Bros. is sending a Wonder Woman character to Sunday’s homecoming of aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in Norfolk, Va. The carrier and three escorts are returning to Norfolk after a two-part, eight-month deployment.

Unfortunately, Carter herself won’t be able to attend. “I am sorry to not be there personally. Even my invisible plane won’t be able to bring me this time, but I truly wish everyone a wonderful, healthy and safe holiday,” she said.

Courtney Williams, a spokeswoman for the Navy Exchange Service Command in Virginia Beach, told the outlet, “Wonder Woman will be giving out some Warner Bros. goodies, signing autographs, taking photos. But mainly, [she’s] there to support those loved ones while waiting on their service member to arrive.”
