Luxury Fyre Festival Postponed After Tumultuous Opening Day

A new luxury festival due to take place this weekend in the Bahamas has been postponed after ticket-holders arrived to a campsite embroiled in chaos. Ja Rule and entrepreneur Billy McFarland’s Fyre Festival, for which weekend tickets were priced from $1,000 to $12,000, tweeted this morning: “After assessing the situation this morning and looking at best options for our guests, we cannot move forward as we hoped we could.” They added that they are working on scheduling flights for those already on the island. Signs of problems at the site began to emerge yesterday, when ticket-holders arrived at a seemingly half-finished campsite. That evening, Blink-182 cancelled, and planes scheduled for the festival were grounded, reportedly because the island was over capacity. Multiple festival-goers already on the island reported underwhelming conditions, including unstable accommodation, haphazard luggage distribution, “luxury tents” seemingly designed for disaster relief, and more. Attempts to leave the island, too, were apparently hindered.
