Lupita Nyong'o is spending some quality time with her mother.

On Monday, Nyong'o, 40, was seen walking with her mom Dorothy and an unidentified friend in Santa Monica, Calif., just four days after the Oscar winner publicly announced her recent breakup from ex-boyfriend Selema Masekela.

Nyong'o appeared to flash a smile during her Monday outing, wearing a black wrap-style dress with colorful flowers imprinted.

The Black Panther actor has remained in the public eye in recent days after announcing her breakup with Masekela on Instagram last Thursday. On Saturday, she appeared on the red carpet at GO Campaign’s 2023 GO Gala alongside Dorothy, just after she thanked her Instagram followers for their support amid the breakup.

"Thank you for all the kindness I have received from sharing my heartbreak news," she wrote on her Instagram Story Saturday. "The words of encouragement mean more to me than I anticipated. They are a balm."

Nyong'o added in the post that she felt comforted having "a little corner online for the romantically heartbroken to gather." She also said that her followers have "shared resources that have helped [them] move through the pain,” and shared several quotes that have resonated with her.

The Us star was also spotted in the company of Joshua Jackson and other friends at a Janelle Monáe concert in Los Angeles last Wednesday, one day before Nyong'o announced her split from Masekela.

"At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust," Nyong'o wrote in her Instagram post announcing the breakup. "I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception."

At the time, Nyong'o wrote she made a rare decision to share the personal news "to keep it 💯, and hoping that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it."

It is unclear exactly when Nyong'o and Masekela, a sports media broadcaster and musician, began dating. The pair publicly confirmed their relationship in a December 2022 Instagram post that has since been deleted.

Nyong'o has not appeared on the big screen since last year's Black Panther sequel Wakanda Forever. She will next be seen in the upcoming A Quiet Place spinoff Day One from director Michael Sarnoski.
