Luke Perry's final role will be in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Luke Perry’s final role will be in a star-studded affair.
On Monday, the Beverly Hills, 90210 star died at 52, the week after he suffered a massive stroke. And while the coming months will feature Perry’s final episodes on The CW’s Riverdale, on which he starred for all three seasons as Fred Andrews, his last role is currently set to be Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Set in 1969 Los Angeles, Once Upon a Time features Leonardo DiCaprio as Rick Dalton, the former star of a western TV series, and Brad Pitt as his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth. They’re both struggling to survive in a Hollywood they no longer recognize. Although, one person they do recognize is Rick’s next-door neighbor, Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie), who is set to be Charles Manson’s most famous victim.
EW confirmed that the film has already wrapped, meaning Perry completed his work as Scott Lancer. The character’s name is interesting because Scott Lancer (played by Wayne Maunder) was one of the main characters on the Western series Lancer, which ran on CBS from 1968 to 1970, fitting right into the timing and plot of Once Upon a Time.
Perry isn’t the first actor to pass away after being cast in the film. Last September, Burt Reynolds died before he had begun filming. Bruce Dern ended up stepping in to replace his long-time friend as George Spahn, the blind rancher who owned the property that Manson and his followers were living on when they hatched their infamous murders.
For his ninth feature (and possibly his penultimate), Tarantino has assembled a talented sprawling cast that also includes Al Pacino, Dakota Fanning, Timothy Olyphant, Emile Hirsch, Damian Lewis, Michael Madsen, Lena Dunham, and Kurt Russell.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood opens in theaters on July 26.
