Luis Coronel, Kevin Ortiz and More to Participate in ‘Mexican Millennials’ Panel at the 2015 Billboard Latin Music Conference

Three out of the four finalists in the new artist of the year category for the 2015 Billboard Latin Music Awards are regional Mexican acts.

This is no anomaly. Regional Mexican in all its forms has long been the leading genre of Latin music in the U.S. and new acts are constantly popping up in the charts. But the past two years have seen an avalanche of new, very young names who have performed particularly well in a variety of subgenres, from narcocorridos (sung narratives that tell tales about drugs and drug-dealing) to romantic banda/norteño.
