You’re in Luck, the Shamrock Shake and Oreo Shamrock McFlurry Are Back at McDonald’s

The minty milkshake has been available at participating McDonald's locations since 1967 while the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry was a 2020 addition to the menu

McDonald's Shamrock treats are back for a limited time

Spring is coming. Proof: the Shamrock Shake and its newer companion, the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry, are back.

In a statement released on Friday, McDonald's announced that both variations of the St. Patrick's Day shake will be available beginning on Feb. 5.

The original Shamrock Shake, which has been on the fast food restaurant's menu for decades, includes soft-serve vanilla ice cream blended with the signature minty "shamrock" syrup. A dollop of whipped cream tops off the treat.

The Shamrock Shake is so popular that in 2020, McDonald's answered the demand with a version of the shake called the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry. As the name suggests, crushed Oreo cookies are blended into the traditional Shamrock Shake base in that dessert.

Both drinks will be available for a limited time at participating locations while supplies last.

The Shamrock Shake and Oreo Shamrock McFlurry might seem to be simple concoctions, but many fans would agree that the drink tastes best from McDonald's — just like Coca-Cola.

McDonald's went so far as to release a statement explaining to customers why it believes that's true.

Per the statement, McDonald's cleans all of its locations' soda dispensers with filtered water and follows Coca-Cola's guidelines for serving its drinks.

Both the filtered water and the soda's sugar syrup are pre-chilled at high temperatures and extra syrup is added so that when ice is added to the beverage, the ratio of ice to soda flavor still provides an enjoyable drinking experience.

According to AllRecipes, storing components of the drink at high temperatures helps the carbon dioxide levels remain high, which keeps the drink carbonated for a longer period of time.

Additionally, as The New York Times previously reported, Coca-Cola syrup is delivered in stainless steel tanks for McDonald's, which keeps it fresh and protects it from the environment.
