‘Lucifer’ Casts God – Lucifer’s Father – for Fifth and Final Season

Lucifer’s daddy is home for the fifth and final season of “Lucifer”: the Tom Ellis-led series has cast Dennis Haysbert in the role of God.

Lucifer’s (Ellis) father, God, “will appear throughout,” the final season of the supernatural drama, but additional plot and character details are being kept under wraps, a spokesperson for Netflix confirmed to TheWrap.

There are only two other instances of God making an appearance on “Lucifer” — but neither actually involved casting the role. In Season 3, when the show was still on Fox, Neil Gaiman voiced the big man upstairs in the “Once Upon a Time” episode. And in Season 2, Timothy Omundson (“Psych”) appeared in an episode as a man who claimed that he was God.

Of course, God isn’t just Lucifer’s father, he’s father to all the angels, including Lucifer’s brother — and God’s favorite son — Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside).

So this casting marks a reunion for Haysbert and Woodside, who played presidents and brothers David and Wayne Palmer, respectively, on Fox’s “24.”

Entertainment Weekly first reported Haysbert’s casting, with co-showrunner Joe Henderson saying: “We did like the big crazy list of [possible actors for the part], and he was my top choice. We were lucky. It was our first and only offer.”

As TheWrap previously reported, the final season of “Lucifer” will consist of 16 episodes and be broken into two parts, with Season 5A having the first eight episodes and Season 5B including the back eight. No premiere date has been set.
