Alamo screening 'Road House'

It's a dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it.

Join Alamo Drafthouse Lubbock for a special screening of "Road House" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11.

The Double Deuce needs professional help. It's time they hire a cooler.

Fewer performers were equally as adept at romancing ladies as they were roundhouse kicking slack-jawed goons in the face than Patrick Swayze. Thankfully, the appropriately-named Rowdy Herrington delivered the universe a favor by giving us both sides of the Swayz’ in "Road House".

A bouncer who trains other bouncers, Dalton is the best bar rescue man (or cooler) in the business. Armed with his bare fists, a sly smirk, and a philosophy degree, Dalton jumps head-first into the seedy world of the Double Deuce, going toe-to-toe with corrupt, ascot-wearing businessman Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara). A mustache-less yet impossibly tough Sam Elliott joins the party later.

Tickets are $10 and available online in advance at drafthouse.com/lubbock/show/road-house

Edge Theatre presents 'Real Women Have Curves'

"Real Women Have Curves" is directed by Mallory Flores and written by Josefina Lopez and published by Dramatic Publishing Co.

Set in a tiny sewing factory in East L.A., this is the outrageously funny story of five full-figured Mexican-American women who are racing to meet nearly impossible production deadlines in order to keep their tiny factory from going under. And while they work, hiding from the INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service), they talk… about their husbands and lovers, their children, their dreams for the future.

Tickets are $17 (plus taxes and fees) for adults ages 18 and older; and $15 (plus taxes and fees) for students with valid ID and seniors ages 65 and older.

Alamo hosting brunch screening of 'Oceans Eleven'

Alamo Drafthouse Lubbock is hosting a special brunch screening of "Oceans Eleven" at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 17.

The history of Hollywood has been marked by watching beautiful people do pretty much anything. Steven Soderbergh's remake of the Rat Pack '60s film goes one step ahead in turning this handsome heist into one of the most compulsively rewatchable movies of the past 25 years.

Parolee Danny Ocean (George Clooney) recruits old pals for the biggest job of their careers: robbing three Las Vegas casinos for $150 million at once during a heavyweight bout. Oh, and the casino owner (Andy Garcia) is dating his ex-wife (Julia Roberts). An intricately-constructed caper, Soderbergh keeps everything fast and loose with a murderer's row of sparkling performances. A cable staple since its release, this demands to be seen on the big screen.

Order from a special brunch menu or from the theater's regular menu for this special event.

Tickets for the movie are $10 and available in advance online at drafthouse.com/lubbock/event/brunch-screenings-oceans-eleven-2001/brunch
