Cactus Classic Cinema to screen 'Father of the Bride'
Lubbock's historic Cactus Theater hosts Classic Cinema featuring 1950's "Father of the Bride" at 2:20 p.m. and again at 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15.
"Father of the Bride" is a 1950 American romantic comedy film directed by Vincente Minnelli from a screenplay by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, based on the 1949 novel of the same name by Edward Streeter.
The film stars Spencer Tracy, Joan Bennett and Elizabeth Taylor, and follows a man trying to cope with preparations for his daughter's wedding.
"Father of the Bride was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Writing, Screenplay, and Best Actor in a Leading Role (Tracy)."

Uli Jon Roth brings multi-media show to Cactus
Cactus Theater presents a special evening with Uli Jon Roth and his Interstellar Sky Guitar Tour multi-media show at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16.
The three-hour-plus integrated multi-media show will be split into two parts with an intermission. The first half will feature a wide range of new and old pieces written by Roth, including excerpts from Vivaldi’s "Four Seasons" and Uli’s "Metamorphosis Concerto". It will also include a brief TED Talk by Uli introducing his new book “In Search of the Alpha Law.”
The second part of the concert will synchronize with the worldwide vinyl release of all three "Electric Sun" albums, alongside all 5 ULI-era Scorpions albums.

'Book of Mormon' coming to Holly Hall
"The Book of Mormon", the nine-time Tony Award® winning Best Musical will hit the stage at the Buddy Holly Hall May 17-19.

Ray Wylie Hubbard coming to Cactus
Legendary Texas singer-songwriter Ray Wylie Hubbard is set to take the Cactus Theater stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 17.
A willing conspirator in the late seventies Cosmic Cowboy revolt that ushered in the mythical Outlaw era, Hubbard was a catalyst in the cultural upheaval that led to the peaceful coexistence of Lone Star music enthusiasts who comprised each end of the social and political spectrum of that troubled time.
In the stellar company of iconic colleagues like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Doug Sahm and Jerry Jeff Walker - Ray Wylie Hubbard was an architect of the musical legacy that continues to inspire subsequent generations of up-and-coming Texas talent.
Special guest will be singer-songwriter Kelley Mickwee.

Classic Cinema features 'Mary Poppins'
Cactus Theater's Classic Cinema features 1964's "Mary Poppins" at 2:30 and again at 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22.
"Mary Poppins" is an American musical fantasy comedy film directed by Robert Stevenson and produced by Walt Disney, with songs written and composed by the Sherman Brothers. The screenplay is by Bill Walsh and Don DaGradi, based on P. L. Travers' book series "Mary Poppins".
The film, which combines live-action and animation, stars Julie Andrews in her feature film debut as Mary Poppins, who visits a dysfunctional family in London and employs her unique brand of lifestyle to improve the family's dynamic. Dick Van Dyke, David Tomlinson and Glynis Johns are featured in supporting roles.

LCT presents 'Kinky Boots'
Lubbock Community Theater presents "Kinky Boots" May 24-June 2 at its theater, 3101 35th St.
Based on a book by Harvey Fiersten and music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper, the production tells the story of Charlie Price, who has reluctantly inherited his father’s shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy.
Trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save his family business, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola, a fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos. As they work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair find that they have more in common than they realized… and discover that when you change your mind, you can change your whole world.
Directed for LCT by Jillian Jhohnstone, the production is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Fridays, May 24 and 31; 7:30 p.m. Saturdays, May 25 and June 1; and 2:30 p.m. Sundays, May 36 and June 2.

West Texas Comic Con setr for June 1-2
West Texas Comic Con, is the largest comic convention in West Texas, is set for June 1 and 2 in the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

The Flaming Lips coming to Hub City
