Rocker Cooper coming to Buddy Holly Hall
Classic rocker Alice Cooper brings his Too Close for Comfort tour to the Helen Devitt Jones Theater of Buddy Holly Hall at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20.
Cooper brings his own brand of rock psychodrama to fans both old and new, enjoying it as much as his audiences. Cooper pioneered a grandly theatrical brand of hard rock that was designed to shock.
Drawing equally from horror movies, vaudeville and garage rock, the group created a stage show that featured electric chairs, guillotines, fake blood and boa constrictors. Cooper was discovered in 1969 by Frank Zappa in Los Angeles, where he signed them to his record label.
Some of Cooper's hits include "Schools Out", "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and "Poison".

Bruno Mars tribute to perform at Cactus
24 Magic, a touring tribute to Bruno Mars, will rock the Cactus Theater at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug 25.
Their high-energy show will have you singing and dancing to all the hits you know and love, like “Uptown Funk”, “Locked Out of Heaven” - and, of course - “24K Magic.”

Jelly Roll coming to USA
Jelly Roll has announced a 44-date headlining tour and will be taking the stage at the United Supermarkets Arena at 7 p.m. on Aug. 29, with his Backroad Baptism Tour 2023.
Jason Bradley DeFord, known professionally as Jelly Roll, is an American singer, rapper, and songwriter known for his collaborations with Lil Wyte, Struggle Jennings, and Tech N9ne In 2023, he won three CMT Music Awards for the song "Son of a Sinner".
Before his transition into country music with 2023's Whitsitt Chapel album, Jelly Roll launched his career in hip hop.

LSO pays tribute to Queen of Soul
The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra opens its 2023-24 season with a tribute to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.The performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, in the Helen Devitt Jones Theater of Buddy Holly Hall.
From “Respect” to “Chain of Fools” and “Amazing Grace,” the powerhouse vocals of Capathia Jenkins and Ryan Shaw will lead us to reminisce over Aretha Franklin’s greatest hits. This high-energy performance will have you dancing in your seat and singing along.

Boland and the Stragglers hit Cactus stage
Jason Boland and the Stragglers bring their Fall 2023 tour to the Cactus Theater at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7.
For the past 20 years, Jason Boland & the Stragglers have dazzled audiences all over as one of the leading ambassadors of the Oklahoma and Texas music movement. Millions of fans cheering him on, over 500,000 records sold independently and 10 albums later, Boland is a career musician whose legacy continues to grow.
From his early days touring in cramped vans and playing in front of tiny bar crowds to the packed venues he performs in today, Boland’s uncompromising approach has grown his profile dramatically, especially in the past handful of years. Spider Man concert comes to Holly Hall
Spider Man: Into the Spider-verse live in concert will be at the Helen Devitt Jones Theater of Buddy Holly Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 8.
This is a whole new way to experience the box office hit "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse."
The Academy Award-winning film from Sony Pictures Animation will be accompanied by a live orchestra, band and turntables with a scratch DJ playing music from the score and soundtrack.
Joining the tour is The Broadway Sinfonietta, an all-women and majority women-of-color orchestra.

Tesh brings Big Band Live to Cactus
John Tesh brings his Big Band Live tour to the Cactus Theater at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9.
Over the course of 50 recordings and numerous popular PBS specials spread over a quarter-century, Tesh has never failed to inspire masses of fans with his always-evolving musical muses.
Launching with his Emmy-winning, synth-driven sports music, he conquered the emerging smooth jazz genre in the ’90s with his saxophone series and later became a force in the CCM/Worship world with best-selling recordings that found inventive musical ways to share his deep faith.

Wills to perform at Cactus
Class country hitmaker Mark Wills is set to perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Cactus Theater.
It was “19(90) Somethin’” when Grand Ole Opry member Wills went from singing at Atlanta’s infamous Buckboard to releasing his first of 19 Billboard-charting singles across seven albums.
While climbing his musical "ladder," he has recorded gold and platinum albums and released some of the most enduring and recognizable country music hits of the last 25 Years.
“Wish You Were Here,” “Jacob’s Ladder” and “I Do (Cherish You)” cemented his country star status in the late ’90s and at the ‘dawning of a new decade’ in the early ’00s.

Americana doubleheader at Cactus
John Baumann and Blue Water Highway present an Americana doubleheader at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the Cactus Theater.
Baumann has established himself as equal parts brilliant songwriter and captivating entertainer. He’s released several solo releases, while honing his songwriting skills and landing cuts with other artists. He is also a member of the acclaimed group, The Pandhandlers, along with Josh Abbott, William Clark Green and Cleto Cordero (of Flatland Cavalry).
Blue Water Highway is an Austin-based folk rock band known for their soulful three-part harmonies, thoughtful songwriting, inventive arrangements and live performances that are just as captivating and entertaining as their albums. The band consists of childhood friends Zack Kibodeaux and Greg Essington, alongside Catherine Clarke and Kyle James Smith. They’ve made three full-length albums blending modern and traditional sounds to create something timeless and familiar, yet fresh and original.

Koy brings comedy to Holly Hall
Comedian Jo Koy brings his world tour to the Helen Devitt Jones Theater of Buddy Holly Hall at 7:3o p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17.
As one of today’s premiere stand-up comedians, Koy has come a long way from his modest beginnings performing in a Las Vegas coffee house. Jo’s uniquely relatable comedy pulls inspiration from his colorful family that has reached all kinds of people and has translated into sold-out arenas around the world.
Koy recently starred in the Universal Picture film "Easter Sunday", set around a family gathering to celebrate Easter Sunday, the comedy is based on Jo Koy’s life experiences and stand-up comedy. He also was featured in his recent Netflix special, Jo Koy: Live From The Los Angeles Forum.

Sun Valley Station to perform at Blue Light
Sun Valley Station will be playing at the Blue Light in Lubbock on Thursday, Sept. 21. The duo just released their new single/video "Cigarettes" and Americana Highways premiered it, and the video already has 106,000 views on Facebook.
Sun Valley Station may be a newly formed band, but the two main components, frontman Jeff Hobbs and bassist Lucas Copeland, have been playing music together for more than 20 years.
The band's debut double album "DANO" is a 22-song collection as epic as the long journey it took to come into creation. The name represents the long process in which this album was created being recorded over a 10-year span and at four different locations: Denton, and Ardmore, Norman and Oklahoma City.
LSO presents 'Rhapsodies'

The Beach Boys coming to Holly Hall
As The Beach Boys mark more than a half century of making music, the group continues to ride the crest of a wave unequalled in America’s musical history.
The group is set to perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, in the Helen Devitt Jones Theater of Buddy Holly Hall.
The Beach Boys have sold more than 100 million records worldwide and have received more than 33 RIAA Platinum and Gold record awards.
Since the band’s co-founder, lead-singer and chief lyricist Mike Love penned the lyrics to The Beach Boys’ first hit, “Surfin’” (1961), dozens of the bands chart toppers have become eternal anthems of American youth: “Surfin’ USA,” “Surfer Girl,” “Fun, Fun, Fun,” “I Get Around,” “California Girls,” “Help Me Rhonda,” “Barbara Ann,” “Good Vibrations,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Rock and Roll Music” and “Kokomo.”

Flatlands Dance presents 'Book Club'
Flatlands Dance Theatre presents "Book Club" at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 and 7 in the Firehouse Theatre of the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, 511 Ave. K.
Flatlands Dance Theatre’s 15th season of professional contemporary dance invites audiences to Book Club, a one-of-a-kind event combining dance and literature. FDT will premiere five original dance works created around central themes including: personal reading and writing practices, literary genres, banned books, library and bookshop spaces, beloved characters, and famous literary quotes.
In collaboration with the Lubbock Public Libraries, Literacy Lubbock, and Wild Lark Books, we will offer a community book club open to all, pre-show creative activities at the Mahon Library and during the First Friday Art Trail at CASP Studio E, children’s book giveaways, and opportunities to purchase books from local authors and those that are featured in the show.

Wetzel adds Lubbock stop to tour
Genre-bending artist Koe Wetzel has added fall dates to his Road to Hell Paso North American headline tour including a stop at United Supermarkets Arena at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 7.
Presented by Monster Energy, the newly announced 22-date run kicked off July 28 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, with stops in Baton Rouge, Indianapolis, San Antonio, and more. The tour will conclude with shows in Lubbock and El Paso, both of which have inspired a couple of Koe’s song and album titles.
Koe will be supported by Wade Bowan and Tanner Ursey.
