The Tigers took down Illinois State in their first matchup of the Cayman Islands Classic on Monday, 77-61. LSU (4-0) led 45-18 at halftime and Murray State transfer KJ Williams led the way, finishing with 33 points and eight rebounds.
NC State transfer Cam Hayes finished with 10 points and guard Adam Miller had 13. The Tigers let up on the gas in the second half but still finished the game with 40 points in the paint and 22 points from their bench.
Akron (3-1) defeated Western Kentucky 72-53 in its opening game of the classic. The Zips' only loss this season came to Mississippi State on Nov. 11, 73-54.
The winner of Tuesday's matchup will move on to the Cayman Islands Classic championship game on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
