LSU baseball has the No. 7 ranking in the USA TODAY preseason Top 25 coaches poll.
The Tigers trail No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 3 Mississippi State and No. 2 Vanderbilt among SEC schools and are ahead of No. 10 Florida, No. 16 Tennessee and No. 17 Georgia.
Texas, following a 50-win season last year, is No. 1. The Tigers face the Longhorns at Minute Maid Park in Houston on March 5.
LSU has been a top-10 team in numerous preseason polls. It was ranked No. 3 by Collegiate Baseball, No. 4 by Perfect Game, No. 8 by D1 Baseball and No. 10 by Baseball America.
Last season the Tigers (38-25, 13-17 SEC) fell to Tennessee in the an NCAA Super Regional. They hired Arizona coach Jay Johnson this offseason to replace Paul Mainieri, who retired after accumulating the most career wins among active NCAA Division I coaches before stepping down.
LSU opens the season on Feb. 18 against Maine.
