Lowrider cruise in tribute to Selena planned for Saturday in Mission District

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A lowrider cruise is planned as a tribute to Selena in San Francisco’s Mission District on Saturday. The San Francisco Lowrider Council will hold the cruise along Mission Street as a tribute to the late Mexican-American singer who was murdered at the age of 23.

The cruise starts at 4 p.m. Saturday on Mission between Cesar Chavez and 24th streets, according to a social post from the SF Lowrider Council.

“This is a family friendly event — no burnouts,” the post reads. The event takes place the same day as the Lowrider Council’s annual “Blessing of the Cars” at the 24th and Mission BART Plaza.

The exact route of the cruise is unknown, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency, but it is expected to encompass Mission between 20th and 26th streets. As a result of the cruise, Muni is planning reroutes on the following lines:

  • 14 Mission

  • 14R Mission Rapid

  • 27 Bryant

  • 48 Quintara/24th Street

  • 49 Van Ness/Mission

  • 67 Bernal Heights
