Love has no bounds, and there’s no better evidence than the Love After Lockup couples who are still together. The series, which premiered in 2018, has since led two spin-offs: Life After Lockup and Love During Lockup.

In an interview with Variety in 2021, executive producer Matt Sharp — who also executive produces TLC’s 90 Day Fiance — explained that he knew the series was a hit when staffers at his production company Industrial Media kept gathering “outside of the edit room, and poking their heads in” while the first season was being edited.

“Not because they have to, “but because they’ve been sucked in by the show,” he said. Sharp went on to report those anecdotal findings to We TV’s executive vice president of development and original programming. “I actually do remember Matt telling me that early on,” Gellert recalled to Variety. “I said, ‘Well, that’s a good sign.’”

Six years later, and Love After Lockup is still hit. Since its premiere, the series has featured dozens of couples. Some have made it and went on to get married and have children, while others have been less successful.

1. Mary and Dominic (Season 1)

Relationship status: Still together?

Mary and Dominic Dalla Nora were featured in Season 1 of Love After Lockup. Mary and Dominic briefly dated before Dominic went for prison for six years in Canada for aggravated assault. They married in the Season 1 finale and welcomed their first child, a son named Ari Cristiano, in April 2020. They welcomed their second child, another son, sometime after. While it’s believed that Mary and Dominic are still together, multiple Reddit users claim in a thread in February 2023 that Mary has used the hashtag “single mom” in her Instagram posts, suggesting that she and Dominic had split.

In 2019, Mary slammed WEtv for not featuring her and Dominic in Love After Lockup‘s spinoff, Life After Lockup. “Proof they don’t want to show a REAL, couple who made it! And still continues to shine and do well! Exact proof they are only here for drama, drug addicts and toothless losers,” she tweeted at the time.

She also shared an Instagram post at the time criticizing Love After Lockup for changing since she and Dominic were on the first season. “I make it a rule to never post when angry… that being said, yesterday an announcement was made that Love After Lockup would be airing Love After Lockup: Life After Lockup as a spin-off series to the original show. Like you… I also found this news out online. After working with our production team for years (three and counting), I would have expected to find this news out from them directly, which is frustrating and disappointing to say the least as we were continuously strung along,” Mary wrote at the time.

She continued, “Dominic and I will not be involved with Life After Lockup. It seems as though our story and image does not align with the direction of the franchise. We chose to do Season 1 of Love After Lockup to end the stereotypes of incarcerated relationships and shed a new light on our relationship proving that real people, who are educated, come from good families, have good jobs and are genuine can be in these types of relationships.”

She went on on to accuse Love After Lockup of perpetuating stereotypes about “prison couples.” “[However,] if you have watched the show, it is fairly apparent that Love After Lockup aims to portray a less than flattering image of those of us who are coming home from prison or have stood by an inmate during their incarceration. It would seem [the] show showcases people suffering from drug addition, mental illness, or other various problems,” she wrote.

She continued, “I was initially under the impression that the series was meant to showcase those of us who don’t fit the assumed ‘prison couple’ image and never imagined that the show would involve this caliber of individuals and their stories. For this reason I am thrilled to not be associated with the show or associated with or compared to the other cast members and their stories.”

Angela and Tony were also featured in Life After Lockup, which saw Tony graduate from Holmes Community College in Goodman, Mississippi, in 2021.

Though they were one of the longest-running relationships to come from Love After Lockup, the series’ official Instagram account revealed in 2022 that Angela and Tony had separated and were “working on” a divorce. “If I had to describe Tony in one or two words … stupid, narcissistic, idiotic,” Angela said at the time. Tony, for his part, has moved on with a woman named Heather Matthews. They went Instagram official in March 2022 and celebrated Valentine’s Day together in February 2023.

During Love After Lockup Season 2, Marcelino proposed to Brittany on the strip of Las Vegas, where they lived together at the time. The couple married in the Season 2 finale. Brittany and Marcelino later welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Zoila, who Brittany was pregnant with during their wedding. Marcelino also helped Brittany gain custody of her son, giovanni, who had been living with her ex-boyfriend, Tito, in between her two stints in prison. Brittany and Marcelino welcomed their second child together, a son named Marcelino Rebel, in 2020. The baby’s birth was featured in Life After Lockup.

Lacey and Shane Whitlow were featured on Season 2 of Love After Lockup. The couple met while Lacey was engaged to her high school sweetheart, John Slater, who was also in prison. While John was incarcerated, Lacey browsed some some online prison dating sites, where she came across Shane’s photo.

Shane was released from prison before John, and the two started dating. While John was still incarcerated, Shane proposed to Lacey, which she accepted and ultimately broke up with John. The couple married on Season 2 of Love After Lockup. Lacey and Shane later welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Summer Rayne. (Lacey also had three children from a previous marriage.)

Lacey revealed in an Instagram post in December 2021 that she and Shane had split after Shane was hospitalized following a missing spree. “Know I’ll always be here even though we aren’t together anymore, and you are still the father of our child and no matter that the public may think or people say,” she wrote. “I know you’re still in there somewhere. I just PRAY you stay SAFE and don’t be too stubborn to reach out to us, your real family.”

Immeidately after she was released, John proposed to Kristianna in front of the facility. They married in a Native American ceremony an hour later.

Kristianna later went back to prison for 11 months due to a parole violation. Though they seemed to be one of Love After Lockup‘s most stable couples, John and Kristianna divorced in June 2022, according to Starcasm.

They welcomed their first child together, a son named Ma’liq, in 2020. Jessica responded to speculation that she and Maurice had split in an Instagram comment in 2020. “I love you and I’m sorry you going through so much right now. Just know I’m always here and always got your back 100%,” Jessica wrote on Maurice’s Instagram post about him being “lonely” in Los Angeles.

They officially split in 2021. According to In Touch, Maurice has since moved on with a woman named Mandy.
