Love a good burger, fresh-cut fries? New burger spot in Boca Raton worth checking out

The Texas burger chain with three restaurants already in Florida, now has a fourth bastion of burger goodness in the Sunshine State — this time in Boca Raton.

To achieve burger nirvana, Mooyah, which launched in Plano, Texas in 2007, relies on good ingredients and skill at the grill.

First they use fresh, never frozen "Certified Angus Beef." But then Mooyah sets the bar even higher, employing 10 additional criteria for their ingredients, making their beef-buying process more selective than USDA Prime, Choice or Select.

As for method, the burgers are set, seasoned, flipped, smashed, seasoned and served using a flattop to ensure that excellent crust. All burgers are made to order.

The name comes from the celebratory exclamation "booyah" with a playful twist of cow-speak, so, "Mooyah."

Specializing in burgers, fries and shakes (the building blocks of life and happiness), MOOYAH in Boca Raton is now open.

The brand has expanded in the past decade and a half. There are now more than 80 Mooyahs operating around the world.

The newly opened restaurant, owned and operated by Marc Verderame, is the first Mooyah in the county and one of only four in Florida, with two in Orlando and one in Kendall.

A restaurant veteran, Verderame got his first taste of Mooyah a little over two years ago when he happened to stop in at one of the Orlando locations.

He said he was impressed and also intrigued. Multiple phone calls and several meetings later he flew to Texas to meet with the company's corporate leaders.

Verderame and two of his store's managers were flown to a training store in Knoxville where they learned the "Mooyah" way. A week before the restaurant's opening, corporation officials flew to Boca Raton to see that everything was being done to Mooyah specifications.

Not only does Mooyah use top quality beef for their burgers, they also proof and bake their own non-GMO potato rolls every morning.

With the basic burger building blocks ready, customers can go wild and create their own burger or choose from one of Mooyah's favorites. Ranging in price from a penny short of $7 to just over $11, there are seven of these favorites including the MDC (double beef, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, Mooyah sauce), the basic cheeseburger, the bacon cheeseburger, cheddar bacon BBQ, mushroom swiss, The Best Quesonario (single beef, green chile queso, fried onion strings, tomato, jalapeños, mayo), and the Double Diablo (double beef, pepper jack, bacon, jalapeños, Cholula, mayo).

If you're building your own, they didn't skimp on toppings. Veggies include lettuce, tomato, pickles, jalapeños, onions, grilled onions, fried onion strings and relish; there's American, Tillamook cheddar, swiss and pepper jack cheeses; and then there are extras like applewood smoked bacon, avocado, green chile queso and sauteéd mushrooms.

In addition to traditional condiments like ketchup, mustard, mayo, BBQ sauce and A.1. sauce, you can try ranch, spicy ranch, Cholula hot sauce and their Mooyah sauce. Though the actual ingredients are not to be divulged, Verderame said the Mooyah sauce is sort of like a creamy thousand island.

Also, if buns or gluten aren't your thing, Mooyah offers a gluten-free bun and the option of wrapping that delicious creation in iceberg lettuce a.k.a. the 'Iceburger.'

And after building the perfect burger, it's time for fries.

The fries at Mooyah aren't delivered frozen then dumped in the fryer. These beauties ($3.99 for a personal order) go through a 24-hour process that includes hand cutting them at the store from Idaho potatoes, soaking them in water to draw out some of the starch, then frying them once, cooling them and then frying them again to order for the freshest, crispiest on the outside, soft inside fry you could want.

If you're going, go all in and have a shake as well, you have eight flavors to choose from including vanilla, Hershey's Chocolate, OREO Cookie, coffee, Reese's PB Cups, cookie dough, strawberry and mint chocolate chip. They come in two sizes: the Little Moo ($4.99) and the Big Moo($6.99).

If beef or meat just aren't your thing they also have Jennie-O turkey burgers, Dr. Praeger's Black Bean Vegan patty and Hebrew National hot dogs.
