Her name is Lourdes Leon, but many people know the artist known as “Lolahol” as the daughter of pop music legend Madonna. The singer, who just turned 27 today, hasn’t hidden the fact that her mother is one of the world’s most famous artists. In fact, Leon is a massive fan of her mother’s work, as evidenced by her latest music video for her song “Spelling.”

Leon released the video for her new song earlier this week, and fans of the original Material Girl couldn’t help but notice the video’s striking similarities to the video for Madonna’s song “Frozen.” Of course, this was a purposeful choice by Leon, who sported a witchy, black dress just like the one her mom did back in 1998. Like her mom, she also isn’t afraid to show a little skin and stripped down to her birthday suit for portions of the video.

“This piece is very special. It’s an homage to my mother’s timeless piece of art ‘Frozen.’ That piece has come up countless times in my life, connecting the two of us. I would be nothing without the woman who brought me into the world . I revere her, and hope that this translates,” she wrote on Instagram along with a sultry clip of the music video.

The full music video has racked up nearly 200,000 views since it was released on Tuesday, and fans are applauding the family homage. “Paying homage to Frozen! 🙌🏽🙌🏽 she shines!,” commented one fan on the video. “It’s the levitation for me, just as hypnotic as Frozen,” added another fan. “Great homage, it’s a like a thank you letter to her extraordinary mother.” The video features several shot-for-shot references to Madonna’s 1998 video, including the aforementioned levitating scene that opens both music videos.

The homage is extra meaningful, given that the record “Frozen” is on, Ray of Light, is the one Madonna released following the birth of Lourdes. The album features themes of motherhood and mysticism and marked her move into more experimental sounds and aesthetics — something that Leon has also emulated in her music.

Leon’s tribute to Madonna’s iconic “Frozen” video is a heartwarming nod to her mother’s prolific career. The apple clearly doesn’t fall far from the tree, as Leon proves she’s got the same fiery spirit and creative spark. So, whether you’re a fan of the original Material Girl or a newfound Lolahol supporter, one thing’s for sure—like mother, like daughter, the beat goes on.
