The singer and daughter of Madonna who goes by Lolahol shared her latest single "Spelling" on Wednesday

Lourdes Leon is pulling inspiration from her mother.

On Wednesday, the singer and daughter of Madonna, 26, released, “Spelling,” her latest single and music video as Lolahol. In honor of the release, Leon took to Instagram to share that the visual is inspired by her pop icon mom’s 1998 “Frozen” video.

Leon (who goes by Lola) shared a clip of the music video and a photo of herself in it, and opened up in the caption about why the project is so important to her. “This piece is very special,” the star wrote. “It’s an homage to my mother’s timeless piece of art 'Frozen.' That piece has come up countless times in my life, connecting the two of us.”

She continued by sweetly sharing how much love she has for the Queen of Pop, 65. The performer said, “I would be nothing without the woman who brought me into the world . I revere her, and hope that this translates.”

In the video directed by Claire Farin and from creative studio Actual Objects, Leon calls back the Ray of Light visual with a similar eerie, blue-toned color palette and by channeling Madonna’s sorceress-like character. It’s almost as if Lolahol — who is awoken in an ominous forest with her eyes glowing just like the Grammy winner’s in “Frozen” — is a witch descended from the same coven.

The “Love Me Still” artist enchants throughout “Spelling.” Dressed in a gothic, black gown with her hair flowing long, she shapeshifts into an animal and dances, as if performing an occult ritual.

The song itself (out on Chemical X Records) is icy and alluring, pulling from trip-hop and nu metal inspiration.

The “Material Girl” singer expressed on her Instagram Story how proud she was of her daughter, who is her eldest of six and her only child with ex Carlos Leon. The superstar reshared the rising artist’s post and added several emojis, including ❤️‍🔥and 🔥.

The singer/model made her debut as Lolahol last year. In August 2022, she dropped her first single, “Lock&Key,” and several months later in November of that year she followed the track up with “Cuntradiction.” Both tracks appeared on her debut EP Go.

“Spelling” marks her first single of 2023. It’s currently unclear whether the track appears on a larger project.

In a 2021 interview with Interview Magazine, she said, “My experience with my mom’s music has changed so much as I’ve gotten older, because I’m increasingly able to recognize how influential and amazing this woman is, and how empowering to other women and ahead of her time she has always been.”

She continued, “I didn’t fully comprehend that until I realized the importance of empowerment and what it means to be a woman. She’s probably the hardest worker I’ve ever seen."
