Louis Vuitton designer brands Trump a 'joke' following controversial visit to Texas factory

Louis Vuitton's Nicolas Ghesquière has become the latest designer to distance himself from the Trump administration.

Just a few days after President Trump's controversial visit to the fashion label's factory in Alvarado, Texas, the womenswear designer made headlines for a social media post calling Trump "a joke."

"Standing against any political action," the creative captioned the Instagram. "I am a fashion designer refusing this association," he continued while adding in the hashtags #Trumpisajoke and #homophobia.

Thurday's opening of the brand's new leather goods workshop was joined by first daughter Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, as well as billionaire and chief executive officer Bernard Arnault.

"We are very honored to have the president of the United States," said Arnault to WWD. "I’m not here to judge any types of policies."

Echoed the label's chief executive officer Michael Burke:

"This is about engaging with the president of the United States’ overriding economic goal of bringing jobs back to the United States…it’s ironic that it’s a French company that’s doing it. There’s a subject…for those who want to be critical. Once again we’re helping out America. That’s what friends are for.”

While many were quick to comment on the impact of the factory's opening on job creation, the Trumps' visit on Thursday was marked with its fair share of backlash, including Trump's now-viral mispronunciation of the label's name and the exclusivity of brand itself.
