Louis Vuitton’s artistic director calls Trump 'a joke' after president's visit to brand's workshop

Louis Vuitton's artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière isn't shy about voicing his political opinions.

Three days after President Donald Trump came to the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the luxury brand's workshop in Texas alongside LVMH CEOs Bernard Arnault and Michael Burke, Ghesquière took to Instagram to denounce the association.

The designer shared a photo of the cover art to Evelyn Thomas' 1984 single "High Energy," and shared how he really felt about the president.

"Standing against any political action. I am a fashion designer refusing this association," the French designer captioned the post and added the hashtags #trumpisajoke and #homophobia.

While neither LVMH nor Louis Vuitton shared photos of the inaugural ceremony, LVMH tweeted out a picture showing the president standing by his daughter, Ivanka Trump, getting ready to cut the ribbon.

"The LVMH Group celebrates the inauguration of the Louis Vuitton Rochambeau Ranch leather goods workshop in Texas, in presence of United States President Donald J. Trump, LVMH Chairman & CEO Bernard Arnault, Louis Vuitton Chairman & CEO Michael Burke," the brand tweeted.

Louis Vuitton received criticism from Twitter users upset at the brand's association with the president.

"Well, I'm certainly done with Louis Vuitton. No more fake bags for me," one user tweeted, adding that they have boycotted the brand for a while.

Some people started adding the hashtag #boycottlouisvuitton along with their tweets.

"There goes Vuitton’s reputation," wrote one user in response to the White House's tweet about Trump visiting the factory.

Another user tweeted at the brand, writing, "Shame on you standing next to the most corrupt President in American history to open your plant. I will never purchase anything with your name on it again."

Another user tweeted that chairman and CEO Arnault is "worth $70 billion has nothing to loose from Trump's policies. But people of color, immigrants, Muslims, women, and #LGBTQ communities are loosing too much."

"We’re not here to support #louisvuitton Anyone who worships a liar, cheat, misanthropist, homophobe, xenophobe, racist, and misogynist, doesn’t deserve our respect," one user tweeted.

Ghesquière has disabled the comments section on his post, but according to CBS and Huffington Post, the designer received a lot of praise for is stance.

"You better say it!!! Proud of you." responded Phillip Picardi, the editor-in-chief of Out Magazine, according to the outlets.
