Louis Leterrier is poised to take the wheel on Fast X.

Less than a week after Justin Lin stepped down as director of the 10th installment of the Fast & Furious saga, Leterrier has emerged as Universal Pictures' choice to replace him, EW has learned.

Though a deal is not yet in place, the French filmmaker would bring plenty of action experience to the high-octane franchise. His previous directing credits include two Transporter films (with Fast family member Jason Statham), The Incredible Hulk, and Clash of the Titans. More recently, he's worked on Netflix's Lupin and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

Lin and Universal announced last Tuesday that he had made the "difficult decision" to bow out as director of Fast X, which had just started shooting. He remains on board as a producer. "Over 10 years and five films, we have been able to shoot the best actors, the best stunts, and the best damn car chases," Lin said. "On a personal note, as the child of Asian immigrants, I am proud of helping to build the most diverse franchise in movie history. I will forever be grateful to the amazing cast, crew, and studio for their support, and for welcoming me into the Fast family."

Fast X is currently slated to hit theaters May 19, 2023. The star-studded cast includes Statham, Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Sung Kang, Nathalie Emmanuel, Brie Larson, Jason Momoa, and Charlize Theron.
