Lottery player scores huge Mega Millions prize in CA — but just misses $218M jackpot

A lottery player scored a winning Mega Millions ticket in California but just missed the $218 million jackpot.

The player bought the winning ticket at an ampm convenience store in Torrance for the Tuesday, June 6, drawing, the California Lottery said in a June 7 news release.

They matched all five numbers, 29, 57, 23, 6, 12, but missed the gold Mega Ball 4.

If they had matched all six numbers, they could have won the $218 million jackpot. Instead, they scored $1,442,494, lottery officials said.

Two other players won the $1 million prize.

Now the jackpot has grown to $240 million ahead of the next drawing on Friday, June 9.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. ET.
