Last spring, Los Angeles based electro-pop newcomer JOME -- a.k.a. songwriter Jesse Marc -- shared his first track, the sweeping "Brushstroke," which he recorded in the forests of Northern California. Five minutes after it debuted, he received an email from New Orleans-based writer/producer Christoph Andersson (G-Eazy), who wanted to collaborate. "I thought it was spam," Marc tells Billboard. "It happened too quickly."
After linking up in Venice, Calif., the now-duo began working together on new music under the JOME moniker, with a shared desire to create a different kind of pop, something with a deeper resonance. Today, they return with the first offering of the new collaboration, the blissful new single "Mountains," premiering exclusively via Billboard.
"Mountains" is the first song off JOME's forthcoming debut EP Tunnels, and the woodsy-pop gem finds the group reflecting on a fractured romance, but still remaining hopeful, as Marc repeats: "turn the city into gold / above it we will grow / until we're taller than mountains."
"It's a song about finally achieving your goals and the feeling that comes along with these moments," JOME tells Billboard. "It's also a reminder to not take things for granted and to appreciate how far you've come, because it's so easy to forget where you started."
