If anyone wants to forget that the college admissions scandal ever happened, it’s probably Lori Loughlin. However, John Stamos’ memoir, If You Would Have Told Me, is taking another lap around the block with the story from his perspective.

Don’t get it wrong, though, the 60-year-old actor considers Loughlin to be his “cherished friend to this day.” He’s not looking to slander her one bit — it’s more about humanizing what she went through when the story broke. “We’ve weathered storms together and stood by each other’s sides despite life’s hurdles. We’ve seen each other at our worst,” he writes in the book.

The controversy revealed that Loughlin, and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli had secured admission for their daughters, Olivia Jade and Bella GIannulli, at the University of Southern California as a part of the crew team. The couple paid they paid $500,000 to mastermind Rick Singer and the Key Worldwide Foundation to gain admissions through a “side-door” scheme even though Olivia and Bella had never rowed before in their lives.

When Stamos reached out to help his friend at her time in need, he noticed that she was rather casual in her approach to dealing with the scandal. The BFFs also noticed that there was a “clicking noise” during their phone conversation — Loughlin believed her phone was bugged which was a scary thought at the time. “No matter how hard she was hit, how desperate everyone was to cancel her and throw her in with the pile of brutal criminals,” Stamos continues, “She stood fast, protecting her daughters from the mud hurled at them day after day after day.”

Even though he understands that the former Hallmark star’s actions weren’t legal, he hasn’t stopped defending her in public. “She wasn’t really the architect of any of it,” he to Dax Shepard in a November 2022 episode of the Armchair Expert podcast, “She was in the way background.”

Giannulli served five months in jail, paid a $250,000 fine, and participated in 250 hours of community service. Loughlin wound up serving two months in jail, paid a $150,000 fine, and completed 150 hours of community service.
