Lori Loughlin makes telling hire amid college bribery scandal

Lori Loughlin is lawyering up.

The former "Full House" actress and husband Mossimo Giannulli have hired a team of high-powered attorneys amid charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud, which the Daily Mail reports carries a maximum of five years in prison.

According to the outlet, which cites court documents filed in Boston on Monday, Loughlin and Giannulli have hired Sean M. Berkowitz, William Trach and Perry Viscounty to defend them in the case, and it's one case from Berkowitz's past that is raising eyebrows.

Berkowitz is a former director from the Department of Justice's Enron Task Force, which involved him prosecuting the former company's CEOs Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling, who were convicted of fraud and conspiracy back in 2006. In addition to reportedly proclaiming that the wealthy execs shouldn't be permitted to "buy their way out of this" scandal, Berkowitz also said following their convictions that, "No matter how rich and powerful you are, you have to play by the rules."

According to charges brought on last week, Loughlin and Giannulli allegedly paid $500,000 to have both of their daughters falsely designated as crew recruits in order to get them into the University of Southern California. Both of them were arrested before each being released on $1 million bonds, for which they put up their home as collateral.

Reports surfaced last week that their daughters, Isabella Rose and Olivia Jade, are expected to withdraw from USC amid the scandal.
