A Fremantle spokesperson said the super-indie would look to work with Mieli and Gianani “in a different structure” in the future.

The Hollywood Reporter Italy, which revealed the news towards the end of 2023, reported the pair are planning their own production company, but neither could be contacted for comment before press time.

Fremantle confirmed it remains the 100% owner of both indies and new leadership to be announced in due course.

Gianani’s Wildside makes features such as There’s Still Tomorrow and Finally Dawn and TV shows including Disney+ original The Good Mothers, while Mieli’s company, The Apartment, made Sky Italy’s The New Pope, while Mieli’s company, The Apartment, made Priscilla and Bones & All and TV shows The King and Six Easy Pieces.

Together, they made influential Italian TV series The New Pope, My Brilliant Friend: The Story of a New Name and We Are Who We Are. They previously both worked at Wildside, which Fremantle bought in 2015. Mieli exited to launch The Apartment with Fremantle’s backing in 2020.

The Apartment is also co-producing the upcoming Netflix Italy drama series Supersex, about the globally-known pornstar Rocco Siffredi, alongside Banijay-owned Groenlandia. On the film front it is working up Queer starring Daniel Craig, another collaboration with Bones & All director Luca Guadagnino.

Wildside’s slate includes Simonov: The Ballad Of Eddie, which stars Ben Whishaw and comes from director Kirill Serebrennikov.
