The first trailer for Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood's new Ted Bundy movie has been released.

No Man of God, which is the latest in a string of projects related to the serial killer, sees the actor star as real-life FBI agent Bill Hagmaier opposite Luke Kirby's Bundy.

It explores the relationship between the two as Hagmaier interviews the killer multiple times about his horrific crimes in the final years before his execution in 1989.

Going by the tense first trailer, Wood's character gets quite close to Bundy as the latter admits he will tell "everything".

"When you get too close to a guy like this, you can lose your way," Hagmaier is warned, with Bundy at one point chillingly describing the FBI agent as his "best friend".

Speaking previously about how close to real-life the movie is, Wood explained: "The film is really comprised of a series of conversations, and those conversations are lifted in part from real conversations and then recollections from Bill of these conversations."

Amber Sealey is directing No Man of God, with the movie also starring the likes of Aleksa Palladino and Robert Patrick.

Recent projects focusing on Bundy have included Zac Efron's Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, as well as Netflix documentary series Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes.

No Man of God is set to be released in cinemas this August.
