The hit Prime Video series, which made history on the streaming platform upon its debut, is welcoming a familiar face back to the Middle-Earth for its second installment. After being cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-Earth to his sinister will, the official synopsis teased.

The series is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” books, and instead begins in a time of relative peace.

In addition to returning core cast ensemble members, Gabriel Akuwudike, Yasen Atour, Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle, Ben Daniels, Nicholas Woodeson, and Sam Hazeldine join the show.

The second season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is produced by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Executive producers include Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, and Gennifer Hutchison, along with co-executive producer and director Charlotte Brändström, producers Kate Hazell and Helen Shang, and co-producers Clare Buxton, Andrew Lee, Glenise Mullins, and Matthew Penry-Davey. Additional Season 2 directors are Sanaa Hamri and Louise Hooper.

The first season of the series was an unprecedented hit for Prime Video and became one of the top original series for the platform. Season 1 was viewed by more than 100 million people worldwide and drove more Prime sign-ups worldwide during its launch window than any other previous content to date, per a press statement.

More “Lord of the Rings” franchise lore is on the way, with Vickers’ co-star Andy Serkis directing Warner Bros.’ “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum” film, which is set for a 2026 release. Additionally, the upcoming animated feature “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” also had a recent first look.

“Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 premieres August 29 on Prime Video. Check out the teaser below.
