Labor Day, summer's last big hurrah, came on the heels of crushing Hurricane Idalia with barely time to exhale the steamy air before news of the death of Florida's beloved music legend Jimmy Buffett sideswiped fans.

As Buffett put it, "It's those changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes. Nothing remains quite the same."

After a big win in Orlando against LSU, Florida State is home at Doak Campbell Stadium to face Southern Miss at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. FAMU Rattlers are at the South Florida Bulls at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Tallahassee Symphony returns for the fall season and Tallahassee benefits from an Old Time Music Concert relocated from White Springs due to Hurricane Idalia.

1. Old Time Music concert takes detour to Tallahassee

One location's troubles has led to Tallahassee's windfall.

An Old Time Music Festival in White Springs scheduled for this weekend was canceled after Hurricane Idalia blew through. This left the nationally recognized artists Erynn Marshall and Carl Jones available to bring their Appalachian and early country style music to the Unitarian Universalist Church, 2810 N. Meridian Road, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8.

These two inspired, award-winning musicians will bring a mix of Southern song-duets andsoaring fiddle, guitar, mandolin and banjo tunes. While rooted in sounds of older players this duo stays true to their own inspiration.

Tickets will sold at the door starting at 6:40 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for youth 18 and younger.Contact Howard Pardue, hpardue@comcast.net.

2. Tallahassee Symphony opens season with Bach & Brahms

Bach & Brahms, the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra's season opener begins with the massive Chaconne from Bach’s 2nd violin partita, orchestrated by Maestro Darko Butorac.

Get a preview at the open dress rehearsal at noon Friday, Sept. 8. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ruby Diamond Concert Hall. Tickets range from $35-$64. Visit tallahasseesymphony.org.

Next up, performed by audience favorite, William Hagen, Bruch’s first violin concerto is considered one of the best works of the Romantic period. Finally you will hear Brahms’ 4th Symphony, a masterpiece of tragedy and exuberance, bookending this blockbuster program.

3. Tally Green presents Sing Along for Earth

Find reason to sing! The newly formed environmentally-oriented organization Tally Green Sing! will hold their first monthly “Sing Along for Earth” from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at United Church in Tallahassee, 1834 Mahan Drive. There will be light refreshments after the singing, and people may bring food to share.

The group is a gathering of people concerned about the environment and global warming, with the aim of creating a community to advocate for the support of our planet through joyful singing and celebration.

The event will begin with a performance by the acoustic duo Hot Tamale, who have connected with environmental organizations and events in our area, and who will sing some of their best environmentally oriented songs. This will be followed by a rousing “Pete Seeger-style" sing-along session for everyone present, led by “Pastor Kim” of the United Church in Tallahassee.

Pastor Kim Buchanan is the charismatic organizer of “Tally Green Sings,” which will be sponsoring monthly “Sing Along for Earth” events at various venues in town in the coming months. Tally Green Sings is being supported by a wide network of interfaith organizations, but Tally Green Sings itself is non-denominational, and is open to people of all faiths as well as people of no faith.

4. Wander down to the Riverfront for Electric Blue Yonder

Folk rock band Electric Blue Yonder of Montgomery, Alabama, brings its "Real American Space Folk Tour" to the Legacy at the Riverfront, 9330 W. Tennessee St., for some trippy tunes at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. The band draws its inspiration from the psychedelic folk, surf, and cosmic rock of the '60s and the Space Age prog/art rock explorations of David Bowie and Pink Floyd, while shifting time to the early roots and parlor style guitar of the 20th century.

Sea of Fog, based out of Montgomery, featuring Baroque Surf Folk founded by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Thomas Bowers, opens the show at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. Bowers grew up in Tallahassee and graduated from the FSU College of Music in 2012. The band's upcoming album, “Gone is Your Ghost,” is a modern reinterpretation of the ancient myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Tickets range from $10-$30 and are available at legacyevents.net.

5. 85 South pulls into the Civic Center

Comedians 85 South bring their national tour for a stop at the Tucker Civic Center at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10. The 85 South Show, produced by 85 South Media, unites three of America's funniest, talented, and most fearless comedians. DC Young Fly, Karlous Miller and Chico Bean first teamed up in Steve Harvey’s studio to begin recording a podcast that showcased their improv, freestyling and roasting skills. Comedy fans were quick to discover the chemistry between the three performers, and now they are continuing their “85 South Show Live,“ across the country. Tickets are $48-$123. Bonus event: Melody Trucks and the Lee Boys

Melody Trucks, talented roots-rock percussionist/vocalist and daughter of late Allman Brothers Band drummer/co-founder Butch Trucks, is once again on tour with the Lee Boys, performing four big Florida upcoming shows with the renowned African-American sacred steel ensemble. WXYZ Bar: The Young Bucks will be performing as a trio from 7-10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8 at the WXYZ Bar in the lobby of the Aloft Hotel in downtown Tallahassee. Tony Young, Stuart Ledbetter and Aaron Sorin will be playing country and Southern rock covers and originals for a football crowd.
