Get ready, it's a Friday the 13th weekend. Adding to the month's spooky aura, celestial events will darken the sky during Saturday's activities for an hour or two just as the Florida State Seminoles kick off against Syracuse in Doak at noon.

The partial solar eclipse on Oct. 14 begins just before noon and ends just before 3 p.m. Join the Tallahassee Astronomical Society and the Challenger Learning Center on Kleman Plaza to view the eclipse (weather permitting). TAS will have telescopes set up and the Challenger is selling special solar glasses for $2 each to safely view this event. Special glasses are needed to look at the eclipse.

The haunted atmosphere at Tallahassee Community College coincides as Theatre TCC! stages Ray Bradbury's "Something Wicked This Way Comes" this weekend and artist Carrie Ann Baade's "The Surreal Imagining" exhibit opens on Oct. 19.

The FSU theater department is working hard to make a living in its production of "9 to 5" as the university gears up to celebrate Homecoming with events Oct. 16-28.

1. 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' to Theatre TCC

A small town. A mysterious carnival. And two boys bent on escaping the midway of life to find adventure, and themselves. Theatre TCC! presents "Something Wicked This Way Comes," by Ray Bradbury, directed by Hannah Talbot, at 8 p.m. Oct. 12-14, Oct. 20-21 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 22 at TCC's Turner Auditorium, 444 Appleyard Dr.

Adapting his own novel for the stage, the legendary Ray Bradbury has created a spine-tingling battle between good and evil, packed with a terrifying collection of characters, including the mysterious Dust Witch and the deadly Mr. Dark. "Something Wicked This Way Comes" perfectly captures the wondrous belief we possess when we are 14. 2. Travis Tritt plays the Adderley Amphitheater

Thirty years after Travis Tritt launched his music career, the Southern rock-influenced artist brings his show to Tallahassee. Leon County and Scott Carswell Present Travis Tritt and Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band in concert Friday, Oct. 13, at the Adderley Amphitheater in Cascades Park. Gates open at 6 p.m., Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band starts at 7 p.m. and Tritt goes on at 9 p.m.

Louisiana born axeman and songsmith Shepherd has sold millions of albums while throwing singles into the Top 10. Ticket are $80 and $60 reserved; $40 for general admission. Visit moonevents.com.

3. Sauce Boss fires up the blues in Southwood

The Great Oaks Pub in Southwood is having a musical/gastronomical extravaganza Friday, Oct. 13, with the first appearance of “The Sauce Boss” and his band “Extra Sauce.” The entertainment runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and in addition to showcasing his musical talents, Bill Wharton will conjure up a pot of his legendary Gumbo for the audience.

Wharton has played all over the world with his original blues music and has dozens of albums. As the Sauce Boss would say, “let the big dog eat.” Full restaurant and bar, cover $10 for public and $5 for members. Call 850-942-4653 for reservations.

4. FSU launches Dolly Parton's '9 to 5: the Musical'

The School of Theatre at Florida State University kicks off its 2023-2024 season with the comedy “9 to 5: the Musical.” Based on the hit 1979 movie, "9 to 5" features music and lyrics by country music icon Dolly Parton. The show runs Oct. 13-22 in the Richard G. Fallon Theatre, Fine Arts Building, 540 West Call St. Performance times are 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

"9 to 5" tells the story of three female coworkers pushed to the edge by their egotistical, hypocritical boss. The trio hatch a hilarious plan to turn the tables on their sexist supervisor, giving their workplace an empowering makeover. With an original score by Dolly Parton, this joyful musical celebrates friendship, teamwork, and sticking it to “the Man.”

Ticket subscriptions for the 2023-2024 season as well as single tickets are now on sale. Single tickets are $10-$30. Tickets available at tickets.theatre.fsu.edu.

5. Mickee Faust Club’s 'Shakesparody After Dark!'

“Hark! What laughter comes from yonder park?” Tis ShakesParody After Dark! Five evenings of cabaret-style Shakespeare-inspired comic skits and music presented by Tallahassee’s community theater for the weird community, The Mickee Faust Club, run Oct. 13-14 and Oct. 19-21. Gates open at 7 p.m. for pre-show merriment. Showtime is 8 p.m. at the Mickee Faust Clubhouse, 609 Railroad Ave.

Mickee Faust, now entering its 36th year, is led by its namesake, a giant profane rat who claims uneasy kinship with a certain unctuous rodent in Orlando. The Faustian Rodent claims a love unnatural for the Bard. “I’m a rat,” says Mickee, “Shakespeare’s dead. But together we make weirdly beautiful music together!”

Bonus event: Discover fantastical art at TCC gallery

Contemporary artist Carrie Ann Baade invites art enthusiasts on an extraordinary visual journey spanning 20 years of her artistic evolution with an opening reception for "The Surreal Imagining" from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at TCC's Fine Art Gallery, 444 Appleyard Drive.

The exhibition features a collection of over 30 paintings and 15 collages, showcasing Baade's exploration of the subconscious. Baade's haunting oil paintings transport viewers to a mythic past, resonating with echoes of the self-entwined in fantastical parables. Gallery hours are 12:30-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gallery extends its hours during events in Turner Auditorium.

Fire Betty's: "Rock with Doc," featuring state Rep. The show starts at 7 p.m., and features heavy metal, hard rock and more.

Havana's Pumpkinfest: 23rd Annual Pumpkinfest 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, Havana Main Street. There will be a petting zoo, face painting, hay rides, over 75 vendors, food, live music all day on the Off the Rails outdoor stage, a beer truck, and more.

House of Music: Tennessee Monroe, country music, 8 p.m. Friday, House of Music, 2011 S. Monroe St. $10.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer: Acoustic duo Hot Tamale will be at Cascades Park for “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer,” the annual event put on to benefit the American Cancer Society.  They will be in the plaza performing family-friendly music from 1:55 until 2:15.  In synch with the theme of the event, Hot Tamale will be sporting their very best hot pink attire.

Monthly Plant Exchange: Garden Club Monthly Plant Exchange. TGC members and the Public are invited to the Historic Rutgers House, 507 N. Calhoun St. at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19. Horticulture program follows.

Zach Williams: Christian music artists Zach Williams and Riley Clemmons take the stage on the Hundred Highways tour, backed by a 10-piece band, with his powerful vocals, raw talent, and chart-topping hits, 7 p.m. Oct. 19. Tickets $18. Visit tuckerciviccenter.com.
