Fair time: Bright lights, rich history light up 81st Annual North Florida Fair
1. Catch Turnpike Troubadours at Civic Center
With a new album released this summer, American country roots band Turnpike Troubadours will be making a stop at the Tucker Civic Center at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3. This show will also include special guests Blackberry Smoke and Jason Boland and the Stragglers. Tickets range from $96-$42; visit ticketmaster.com.
The Troubadours released its sixth studio album, "A Cat in the Rain," on Aug. 25, recorded with Shooter Jennings in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, as well as in Los Angeles.
Hailing from Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the gritty Turnpike Troubadours formed in 2005, assembling a lineup that eventually included frontman Evan Felker, lead guitarist Ryan Engleman, fiddle player Kyle Nix, bassist R.C. Edwards, drummer Gabe Pearson, and steel guitar and accordion player Hank Early.
Turnpike Troubadours is set to play with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit for two nights at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Jan. 19-20, 2024.
Their debut album, "Bossier City," was released in 2007, the first of five studio albums the group would release. 2017’s "A Long Way from Your Heart" went to No. 3 on the Billboard Top Country chart. The band took a four-year timeout and began touring again in 2022.

3. Talk about FSU Lab's 'Imogen Says Nothing'

Imogen was probably a typo by Shakespeare, a character who never says anything despite being listed as part of the cast of "Much Ado About Nothing." But in this topsy turvy comedy, Imogen is much ado about everything: a bear disguised as a human who transforms the Lord Chamberlain’s Men with her lawbreaking actions, opinionated voice, and fearless wit.

5. Take a ride on 'Carousel' with Young Actors
Young Actors Theatre will open the first production of its 49th season at 7 p.m. Friday with Rodgers & Hammerstein’s "Carousel," fittingly sponsored by the North Florida Fair. "Carousel" is set in a coastal community with a cast of students ages 9 to 18 performing the iconic songs like "June is Busting Out All Over," "If I Loved You," and the poignant "You'll Never Walk Alone."
“Carousel does not follow a standard musical format,” shares director Elaine Hendriks Smith, of FSU’s School of Theatre. “The characters do not sing in their opening moments. Instead, they exist within the spectacle of the carousel, an exciting technology for people in 1873.”
Shows continue at 1:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and next week at the YAT, 609 Glenview Drive. Visit youngactorstheatre.com. Tickets for "Carousel," running Nov. 3-12, start at $15.
