1. Kat Riggins rolls into BBC at the Legion

Singer Kat Riggins is doing her part to keep the blues alive with her Blues Revival Movement pulling into the revived BBC at the Legion for a show at 8 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the Saul Bridges American Legion Post 13, 229 Lake Ella Drive. Tickets are $30 advance, $35 day of show. A blues woman to the core, Riggins' music is peppered with hints of R&B, soul, country, gospel, hip hop and rock 'n' roll.

Joe Connors & The Howell Brothers keeps the blues groove going at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Legion. Tickets are $20 advance and day of show. Welcome Steve Howell back after being off for a year.

2. Ice, ice baby: Celebration of invention at Waterworks

For all who swelter and sweat, the relief brought by ice and air conditioning is to be celebrated as well as the man responsible for these human achievements. Midtown tiki bar Waterworks, 1133 Thomasville Road, honors Dr. John Gorrie every year with its Celebration of Ice.

At 2 p.m. Sunday a short reenactment will be performed of Dr. Gorrie introducing his unheard of device, the first ice machine, at an Apalachicola Bastille Day in 1850. The play will be followed with a surf rock show with The Intoxicators!

Food, specialty drinks with or without alcohol and plenty of ice will be available all afternoon. Craft vendors and historical information will be included in the celebration.

3. 'Women at War' exhibit lands at FSU MoFA

This week, Florida State University’s Museum of Fine Arts debuts an acclaimed exhibition that provides a glimpse into the experience of Ukrainian women during wartime. "Women at War” will be on display at MoFA July 13-Oct. 28 at the museum, 530 W. Call St.

The exhibit opening reception is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 13.

Curated by New York-based art historian Monika Fabijanska, the exhibit is on loan from the Fridman Gallery in New York and was done in collaboration with the Voloshyn Gallery, a prominent art gallery in Kyiv.

"Women at War” features works by leading contemporary women artists working in Ukraine and was listed among the 10 best art exhibitions of 2022 by The Washington Post and Frieze magazine.

As part of the exhibition, the museum will host public programming including an artist talk, tours of the exhibition, and a conversation with the curator in the fall. Museum admission is free and open to the public. For more information, visit mofa.fsu.edu.

4. LeMoyne brings out the cool quilts

After a three-year hiatus, the Quilters Unlimited members are back to share their work at LeMoyne Arts, 125 N. Gadsden St.

"Metamorphosis: Transformations," by Quilters Unlimited, which opened Tuesday and runs through Aug. 3, represents how this group of quilters has evolved over time. There will be a Muffins & Mimosas, Quilt-O Bingo Edition from 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, July 15.

Quilto is just like Bingo, only with clever quilt sewing terms. To Participate, LeMoyne Arts members get 4 Quilto Cards for $5, non-members get 4 Quilto Cards for $10. Entry is free for members, $5 for non-members. An Artist Talk with quilter Linda O'Sullivan on “The Welsh Perspective” will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 20.

5. We love them yeah, yeah, yeah

Scott Freiman combines his love of The Beatles with his experience as a composer, producer and engineer to deliver educational lectures about the creative process of the Beatles. "Deconstructing the Beatles" continues at All Saints Cinema, 918 Railroad Ave., Saturday, July 15 with "Sgt Peppers Album!"

Scott's multimedia presentations transport his audiences into Abbey Road Studio with anecdotes about The Beatles' recording sessions, allowing fans to experience the evolution of The Beatles' groundbreaking albums and songs.Showtimes are at 7 p.m. Here's the schedule: July 15 – Sgt Pepper’s; July 22 – White Album; July 29 - Abbey Road – Side 1; Aug. 5 – Abbey Road – Side 2; Aug. 12 – Magical Mystery Tour; Aug. 19 – Revolver; and Aug. 26 – Rubber Soul.
