As the summer draws to a close, the weekend nightlife in Jackson is gearing up.

Jackson venues will have live performances from top music groups, comedy shows and more this weekend and beyond.

Country music star Jamey Johnson is headlining a 7 p.m. Sunday show at the Brandon Amphitheater that will be opened by Blackberry Smoke of Atlanta.

Blackberry Smoke's drummer, Brit Turner, recently suffered a heart attack while at his home in Atlanta, forcing the band to cancel at least one show. However, according to multiple reports, Blackberry Smoke plans to play the rest of their scheduled dates as an acoustic band until Turner recovers and is fit to perform again.

In an interview earlier this week, Blackberry Smoke lead Singer Charlie Starr said Sunday's performance will celebrate the band’s recent album You Hear Georgia, the band's latest album that was written during the pandemic lockdown.

"During the lockdown in 2020 that was the last song I had written," Starr said. "Part of the inspiration for the song derived from wanting fans to hear the Southern accent and rich traditions when I sing and the band plays."
