Loki” could conjure up a Best Drama Series nomination this year and give Disney and Marvel representation at this year’s Emmys. The second season of “Loki” continues the journey of Tom Hiddleston‘s titular former villain as he attempts to save the multiverse. Loki traverses the multiverse with the help of Owen Wilson‘s Mobius, Ke Huy Quan‘s Ouroboros, Sophia Di Martino‘s Sylvie, and Wunmi Mosaku‘s Hunter B-15. They are hoping to repair the damage caused to the multiverse during the events of the first season, with Kang (Jonathan Majors) again at the center of the trouble.

Season one was greeted with rapturous applause and this sophomore outing has been met with the same response.

Bob Strauss (The Wrap) observed: “Characters with compelling issues, high existential drama, quirky comedy and world-threatening action are blended better than in any other Disney+ show to date.”

John Nugent (Empire) explained: “With the multiverse teetering all around it, Loki is one strand of the timeline that is sustaining its originality and intention — and actually thriving. It’s about time.”

Kirsten Howard (Den of Geek) noted: “Loki is the only live-action MCU series to get a second season so far, and as the premiere kicks off it’s easy to see why. Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, and the rest of the Loki cast make the show’s near-incomprehensible time travel utterly compelling.”

Therese Lacson (Collider) opined: “Season 1 was well-loved, and with a fan-favorite character like Hiddleston’s God of Mischief at the helm, Season 2 proves that the series not only hasn’t lost its touch but remains one of the stronger pillars of the MCU as a whole.”

Trent Moore (Paste Magazine) summarised: “This show is still whip-smart, fun, funny, ambitious, geeky, and compelling as hell.”

As a result, “Loki” has found its way into our lineup of predicted nominees for Best Drama Series alongside “The Crown,” “The Morning Show,” “Gilded Age,” “Slow Horses,” “The Curse,” “3 Body Problem,” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” “Loki” is in eighth place, so it’s right on the precipice of being leapfrogged by fellow competitors such as “Fallout,” “Sugar,” “Ahsoka,” “Hijack,” and “The New Look.” However, there are a number of reasons why you should stick with “Loki” as one of your predicted picks in this category.

Firstly, the House of Mouse is a force to be reckoned with. Since Disney started producing these top-tier, high-end shows, they have done well at the Emmys. “The Mandalorian” was nominated for Best Drama Series in 2020 and 2021; “WandaVision” reaped a Best Limited Series bid in 2021; “Obi-Wan Kenobi” also secured a Best Limited Series nomination in 2024; and, in the same year, “Andor” picked up a Best Drama Series citation. The “WandaVision” recognition, in particular, is good news for “Loki:” it proves that Emmy voters are open to nominating Marvel shows.

“The Mandalorian” and “Andor” landing bids for Best Drama series is proof of a recent trend in this Emmys category: voters are now more likely to nominate genre shows such as sci-fi or fantasy flicks. We can thank “Game of Thrones” for that shift. Other genre shows to have been nominated for Best Drama Series include “The Last of Us,” “House of the Dragon,” “Stranger Things,” “Lovecraft Country,” “The Boys,” “Westworld,” “Game of Thrones,” and, of course, those two aforementioned “Star Wars” shows. “Loki” could well be next.

We are also predicting “Loki” to be nominated for Best Drama Actor for Hiddleston, Best Drama Supporting Actor for Quan, and possibly further supporting bids for the likes of Wilson, Di Martino, Mosaku, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Plus, it’s bound to do well at the Creative Emmys (season one earned six nominations). That could result in a cumulative bid for Best Drama Series for the show.

“Loki” season two has already proven its awards credentials this season. It was nominated for four major Critics Choice TV Awards earlier this year: Best Drama Series, Best Drama Actor for Hiddleston, Best Drama Supporting Actor for Quan, and Best Drama Supporting Actress for Di Martino.
