A Look Back At The Manson Family As Former Member Releases Her Tell-All Book
In the autumn of 1969, a 35-year-old man living in Southern California soared from near obscurity into international infamy in a matter of weeks when he was revealed as the mastermind behind two sets of ritualistic slayings, widely referred to as the Tate/LaBianca killings, executed over two nights in two separate Los Angeles neighborhoods the previous August.

Charles Manson was the self-proclaimed head of “The Family,” a cult made up of counterculture dropouts. In addition to the Tate/LaBianca murders, authorities say they suspect Manson of influencing his followers to commit many more killings.
Manson was found guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the Tate/LaBianca killings in 1971.
