Marlowe was all too happy to see his friend Terry and offered him a lift from Los Angeles to the California-Mexico border. Unknown to the fact that their lives are going to change forever, Marlowe dropped Terry in Tijuana, hence the name of the movie. Once he returned, he was immediately arrested for being a suspected accomplice to Terry’s wife, Sylvia’s murder. However, soon after, Terry was also found dead, and it was concluded that he had taken his own life.
Once out of jail, Marlowe comes into contact with the Wades and gradually realizes that his friend and they are connected. Amidst all, he is also interrogated, threatened, and blackmailed by gangster Marty Augustine. Marlowe does not believe his friend to be a murderer or someone capable of committing suicide. He begins his investigation and as the story gradually unfolds it turns out that things are not how they look. Marlowe learns about the people around him in detail and is forced to take matters into his own hands.
Elliott Gould and Jim Bouton played Philip Marlowe and Terry Lennox while Sterling Hayden Nina van Pallandt played Roger and Eileen respectively. This includes Jo Ann Brody, Mark Rydell, Henry Gibson, Rodney Moss, Jim Bouton, Pepe Callahan, David Arkin, Warren Berlinger, David Carradine, Enrique Lucero, Pancho Córdova, Stephen Coit, and Jack Riley.
