London Mayor Stands By Statements Calling Donald Trump ‘Ignorant’ For Anti-Muslim Views
London Mayor Sadiq Khan sat down with Good Morning Britain and discussed his recent war of words with Donald Trump. The presumptive GOP presidential nominee has gone back and forth with Khan over his anti-Muslim immigration policy. Khan is the first Islamic mayor in London’s history. “My point to Donald Trump, with the greatest respect to Donald Trump, is your views on Islam are ignorant,” Khan said.
The disagreement began when Trump claimed that Khan would be exempt from a theoretical moratorium on Muslim immigration into the United States. Khan countered by calling Trump’s views on Islam ignorant. Trump addressed Khan’s comments in an interview with Piers Morgan. “He doesn’t know me, he’s never met me, he doesn’t know what I’m all about,” explained Trump. “I think they’re very rude statements, and, frankly, tell him I will remember those statements.”
Both Khan and British Prime Minister David Cameron have been outspoken in their dislike of Trump’s rhetoric. Some fear that this does not bode well for potential relations between the two nations in the event of a Trump presidency. But Khan still seems willing to show the GOP candidate that there are largely positive messages and products of his Islamic faith.
