From the release date to the cast, here's everything to know about the new season starring Tom Hiddleston

The god of mischief is coming back to our TV screens soon.

Following the release of Disney+'s Loki series in 2021, it has been confirmed that the upcoming second season will be part of the MCU's Phase 5, which kicked off with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Taking place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the show follows an alternate version of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) after he has created a new timeline. Throughout the first season, the alternate Loki works with the Time Variance Authority (TVA) to help monitor the timeline and eliminate other time variants.

Along the way, he makes some interesting friends, including a time variant of himself, leading to the introduction of He Who Remains (played by Jonathan Majors), who created the TVA to prevent a multiversal war between variants of himself.

One of those said variants, Kang the Conqueror, made his MCU debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and the first tease of Loki season 2 was unveiled during the film's end-credits.

What will Loki season 2 be about?

The two end-credits scenes for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania set up the second season of Loki. In the first, we are introduced to a Council of Kangs as they decide to assemble all Kang variants in an effort to prepare for a multiversal war.

In the second end-credits scene, Loki and Mobius come in contact with a new variant of Kang. Set in the early 1900s, the variant introduces himself as Victor Timely. In the comics, Victor Timely is a version of Kang who travels back in time and creates various advanced technology in hopes of eventually defeating the Avengers.

As Loki and Mobius watch Victor Timely's presentation from the audience, Loki informs Mobius, "That's him." Not impressed, Mobius quips, "I thought you said he was terrifying?," to which Loki replies, "He is."

It seems as the new season of Loki picks up, Mobius and Loki will work together to track down Kang variants through time in an effort to stop a multiversal war, potentially leading to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Who is in the Loki season 2 cast?

Hiddleston reprises his role as Loki, alongside Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Eugene Cordero as Casey and Tara Strong as Miss Minutes.

Additionally, Rafael Casal (Blindspotting) and Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones) have been cast in undisclosed roles, per Deadline.

Jonathan Majors' return as new Kang variants was previously teased in the end-credits scene for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The official trailer for Loki season 2 released in July confirmed Majors will appear in the new season amid his recent legal controversies.

When did Loki season 2 film?

Filming reportedly kicked off in June 2022 in the United Kingdom and wrapped that October in London. As shown in set photos, some of the season appears to take place in the 1970s based on the costumes seen on the characters.

How many episodes will Loki season 2 have?

The new season will have a total of six episodes.

Who is directing Loki season 2?

Per Deadline, duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (who previously worked on Marvel's Moon Knight) are set to co-direct a majority of the episodes for the new season. Eric Martin is also slated to pen all six episodes.

Is there a Loki season 2 trailer?

In July, Marvel released the first trailer for Loki season 2, which is jam-packed with action as Loki, Mobius M. Mobius and Sylvie travel through time. The new trailer also confirms Majors will appear in the new season as a variant of Kang the Conqueror.

When will Loki season 2 be released on Disney+?

In May 2023, Marvel announced that season 2 will premiere on Disney+ on Oct. 6, 2023. Disney+ revealed that new episodes will drop weekly at 6 p.m. PT, with the season 2 finale airing on Nov. 9.
