What does “You died, insert your coin, loser” mean in Loki Season 2 Episode 5’s post-credits scene?

Episode 5 ends its credits with a dialogue from Zaniac actor, Brad Wolfe who says, “You died, insert your coin, loser.” It comes from the Zaniac Arcade game revealed earlier in the episode.

Loki Season 2 Episode 2 introduced us to a version of the Marvel villain Zaniac through Hunter X-5, aka Brad Wolfe. Apparently, Brad Wolfe starred in a movie playing the character of Zaniac in 1977 on the Sacred Timeline. But in Sylvie’s branched timeline, Zaniac was revealed to be an Arcade Game in 1982, Bronxton.

When Loki goes to meet her in Episode 5, the Zaniac game shows up at a bar. We don’t see any gameplay or hear anything from the game. But cut to the very end at 44:30, there’s an end-credits attachment. Similar to how we heard the metal clunking sound from Tony Stark at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Episode 5’s credits end with the dialogue “You Died, Insert Your Coin, Loser” coming from the Zaniac Arcade game.

It obviously means that the player who was playing the game has lost and they need to reset by inserting a coin. But it also signifies what happened with He Who Remains and Loki. He Who Remains died and sort of “inserted a coin” to bring Victor Timely into the mix to take his place in the multiversal “game.”

Similarly, the Temporal Loom melted and now Loki has “inserted a coin” with his time slipping to go back to the TVA’s past before it happened. In episode 6, he is set to play the game of fixing the Temporal Loom again.
