One in three GP practices are doing more appointments remotely than face-to-face

Thousands of GP surgeries are still seeing most of their patients remotely rather than face-to-face in the wake of the pandemic.

Across the country, many patients are still struggling to get the care they need, with NHS waiting lists sitting at a record high.

On Nov 24, the NHS for the first time published data that names the GP practices failing to see people in person, as well as how long people are waiting for appointments.

Use our tool below to see how your own GP practice is performing in terms of waiting times and face-to-face appointments and compare it against others in your area.

Analysis of the data from The Telegraph has found that one in three GP practices are doing more appointments remotely than face-to-face.

Across England, GPs are on average holding 59 per cent of their appointments in person as of October 2022 - but the data shows many individual surgeries are falling far short of this national performance.

Over 2,000 practices of the 6,170 which submitted data are holding a majority of appointments by telephone or video call - 32 per cent.

Though the NHS has not set a specific target for face-to-face appointments, this is vastly below pre-pandemic levels.

In September the Government announced that patients should be able to get an appointment in a fortnight.

November's data shows that only two per cent of GP practices are seeing all of their patients within two weeks.
