Lizzo is Being Sued By The Postmates Driver She Put On Blast
A Hasty Decision
Lizzo probably isn't feeling good as hell right now.
The latest queen of pop is facing some consequences to a hasty action that she made two months ago. After a Postmates order went awry in Boston, Lizzo tweeted out:
"Hey @Postmates this girl Tiffany W. stole my food she lucky I don't fight no more"
She also included the girls picture in the tweet to her one million followers. People eventually pointed out that this wasn't a great move from a very public figure and she was putting a minimum wage employee at risk, so she deleted the tweet and issued an apology.
"I apologize for putting that girl on blast. I understand I have a large following and that there were so many variables that could’ve put her in danger. Imma really be more responsible with my use of social media and check my petty and my pride at the door. 🥺"
A Lawsuit In The Making
At the time, a company spokesperson had explained that the driver had arrived at Lizzo's hotel, but there was no phone number attached to the order and when she asked the front desk about the name on the order ("Bonnie V), she was told there was no one there with that name. After she had tried to get ahold of Lizzo for the allotted 5 minutes and couldn't reach her, she moved on to her next order.
Well, now that Postmates driver, Tiffany Wells, is suing Lizzo for libel, intentional infliction of emotional distress and false light invasion of privacy.
She Fears For Her Life
"As a direct result of Lizzo’s actions, Plaintiff has suffered and continues to suffer substantial damage and loss, including, but not limited to, the loss [of] future earnings, pain and suffering, emotional distress and trauma, fear of physical safety, insult, anguish, stress and anxiety, public ridicule, humiliation, indignity, damage and injury to her personal and professional reputation, and other incidental and consequential damages and expenses."
Lizzo's stans were downright vicious to Wells after the incident, and Wells claims that she has feared for her life since the incident.
Does She Have A Point?
Honestly, she has a point. The suit continues, saying that Lizzo "knew or should have known that her false and defamatory statements would be republished over and over by third-parties."
Additionally, the suit points out that "Lizzo lacked reasonable grounds for any belief in the truth of her statements and acted negligently in failing to determine the true facts" and that she "acted with actual malice and reckless disregard for the truth when she tweeted the false statements of or concerning" Wells.
