"Yeah I can’t do this Twitter shit no more.. too many trolls... I’ll be back when I feel like it," she wrote.

It's unclear what specifically led her to the decision, but the day before she tweeted a couple messages about doing better and helping others.

"Sometimes when you don't know what to say, the best thing to say is nothing," she wrote in the first tweet. "I've been speechless for days... but I love y'all nonetheless."

"Polarity will always exist. Good will always be versus Evil. One opinion will always oppose the other," she shared in a second tweet. "Your opinion does not make you a bad person. It's your actions that matter. Do better isn't an insult, it's a plea. We need betterment more than anything."

Fans flocked to the mentions to try and uplight the musician.

"Please know for every troll, there are so many genuine fans here to show love and support. We've got your back QUEEN! Hope you come back to us soon!" one said.

"This genuinely makes me so sad scrolling through the reply section. all Lizzo has ever done for me and many others is uplift people, and y'all really think its funny to fat-shame. i know so many amazing people who are overweight, and to scroll through and see all of this truly breaks my heart. Lizzo has brightened up my day so many times, only for people to make fat jokes, thinking that it's funny or cool. i really hope Lizzo is okay because honestly this really hurts me," another wrote.

Lizzo defended herself in another tweet. "I'm popular because I write good songs and I'm talented and perform high energy hour and a half shows filled with love," she wrote. "The only person who needs to do better is you. Keep my name out ya mouth & look in the mirror before you come for me. Here's the attention you ordered."

Lizzo became a massive superstar in 2019 and was named TIME's Entertainer of the Year and also Entertainment Weekly's Entertainer of the Year.
