'Lizzie McGuire' Reboot Isn't Happening Right Now Thanks to Show Creator
This likely isn’t the news Hilary Duff wanted to hear while on her honeymoon with new husband Matthew Koma. Lizzie McGuire creator Terri Minsky has officially stepped down from the role of showrunner for the Disney+ reboot of the Disney channel series resulting in an unexpected pause in production until a new showrunner signs on.
“Fans have a sentimental attachment to Lizzie McGuire and high expectations for a new series,” a Disney spokesperson revealed. “After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show.”

Disney+ Gives First Sneak Peek of the New Lizzie McGuire in 2020 Teaser Trailer
Earlier this month, fans were given a brief teaser of the upcoming revival series where Duff, who plays lead character Lizzie McGuire, is seen leaning into a car window. “Hi,” she says, “It’s me.” Though there wasn’t much to go off of with the teaser, it offered just enough to excite fans for what’s to come.
The original sitcom ran from 2001 to 2004 and centered around 13-year-old Lizzie who navigates school life, friendships, and relationships. The revival, which has been expected to be released at an undisclosed date in 2020, picks back up with Lizzie turning 30 while navigating life as an adult in New York City.
Back in August 2019, the actress made the exciting announcement that her memorable and lovable character was returning to the small screen. “SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works! I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl ♥️…and into her 30’s,” she wrote alongside a video of the original show’s theme song.

Up until this recent news, the mother-of-two has been proudly sharing regular updates from set which we’re sad to see stop.
