Liza Koshy takes a tumble while walking the Oscars 2024 red carpet: 'There was a manhole,' she joked

The Academy Awards adds yet another fall to its history books.

Fashion hurts — just ask Liza Koshy.

The actress and media personality accidentally pulled a Jennifer Larewnce while walking the red carpet for the 96th Academy Awards. Koshy was smiling for the cameras in a dazzling rose dress and towering pair of heels when she lost her balance and took a tumble in front of reporters.

While the moment was captured in photos and videos — and has already become meme-fodder on social media — there is some good news: Koshy handled the fall like an absolute pro.

Though initially startled, the Players star quickly recovers after landing on the floor. “That’s alright,” she said, striking a sit-down pose. “We’re good down here too.”

As people rushed over to help her up, Koshy got back on her feet saying, “There was a manhole, y’all saw?” Adding, jokingly, "I'm good, I got my ankles insured, so we're fine. It's a write-off."

Koshy is certainly not the first to wipe out while walking a red carpet, nor the first to take a tumble on Oscars night. Jennifer Lawrence still holds the title for most memorable fall, after tripping up the stairs while heading to collect her first-ever Academy Award for Silver Linings Playbook.

As she explained in the aftermath, fashion, cake, and forgetfulness were the culprits in Lawrence’s case. There’s no telling what tripped Koshy up, but given the height on her dazzling red heels, they may have been a factor.

The 2024 Oscars, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, begin Sunday at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on ABC. Catch up on all the nominees, plus EW's predictions for who will take home the gold.
