‘Live By Night’ Trailer: Ben Affleck Learns The Price Of The American Dream

“If that’s who you think we are, you’re making a fatal calculation. We’re clerks and bankers and police officers and we even got a judge. And if you’re dim enough to fight us, I’m gonna rain bloody hellfire down on you and all you love.” Sounds like a pretty heavy threat. But is Ben Affleck fazed? Watch the new trailer for Live by Night, and you’ll have a pretty good idea.

It’s Prohibition in the Roaring ’20s, but the gangster-run speakeasies have no shortage of booze — and power. The lure of “easy” money beckons Joe Coughlin (Affleck), the black-sheep son of the Boston Police Superintendent. He makes the no-turning-back decision to steal a mob boss’ money — and his moll. Not all goes well.

The resulting payback sends Coughlin south to Tampa, the ladder of the Florida city’s steamy, rum-running underworld. Chris Messina, Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana and Chris Cooper lead a cast that includes Max Casella, J.D. Evermore, Remo Girone, Robert Glenister, Anthony Michael Hall, Matthew Maher, Miguel J. Pimentel, Chris Sullivan and Titus Welliver

Affleck wrote and directed Live by Night, based on Dennis Lehane’s novel. The film opens its limited run on Christmas Day and goes wide January 13. Check out the trailer above, and tell us what you think.
