The Charleen & Charles Hinson Amphitheater in New Albany is to kick off its first full season with the Kat & Dave Show at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at 170 E. Dublin-Granville Road.

Part of the amphitheater’s performance series, the show is to feature the music stylings of Katharine McPhee of American Idol fame and David Foster, a musician, composer and arranger – among other music-related duties – who’s won 16 Grammy Awards.

“Obviously, the Kat & Dave Show is generating a lot of excitement, as the entire terrace sold out in two days,” said Craig Mohre, president of the New Albany Community Foundation.

The foundation designed the amphitheater, raised money for its construction and turned over ownership to the city of New Albany, according to Mohre.

Tickets to the performance series can be purchased via newalbanyfoundation.org.

This is the first complete season in the amphitheater because the facility was completed last year and dedicated in August.

There were two other events after the dedication: The New Albany Symphony Orchestra held a concert in September and the community foundation held its first “Amp Up the Arts” benefit featuring Tony Award winner and Academy Award nominee Leslie Odom Jr., according to Mohre.

“I think everyone is ready and excited to gather again in social settings,” he said. “And the Hinson Amphitheater is a perfect venue, as it’s outdoors, intimate and just a beautiful setting to enjoy a performance.”

Plenty more activities are scheduled throughout the year.

“Family Flick Nights” – which are free and open to the public – get started June 24 with a showing of “A Bug’s Life.”

“Amp Up the Arts,” a fundraising event to be held Aug. 11, is to feature Rene Elise Goldberry, originator of the role of Angelica Schulyer in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton.”

Scott McAfee, spokesperson for New Albany, said the amphitheater's much-anticipated full season offers the community a true diversity of entertainment options.

"The vision of a thriving New Albany Arts District and summer-long, live outdoor performances is becoming a reality," McAfee said.

"There is so much wrapped up in the Charleen & Charles Hinson Amphitheater’s first season, from the national acts that the New Albany Community Foundation is bringing in throughout the summer and fall months, to the 'Family Flick Nights' in June, July and August, to the Columbus Jazz Orchestra & Friends performance in July," he said.

"Add to that the New Albany Symphony’s first annual New Albany Rose Run Fest in June, which will culminate with a concert at the Hinson Amphitheater," McAfee said, "as well as opportunities for New Albany community singing groups and bands to showcase their talents throughout the summer, and it’s going to be a great year for New Albany outdoor live entertainment."
