‘Liv and Maddie: Cali Style’ First Look: Joey Bragg Makes His Standup Debut
Joey Bragg is a standup guy — literally. The actor, who plays eldest brother Joey Rooney on Disney Channel’s Liv and Maddie: Cali Style, makes his standup comedy debut on the upcoming episode, “Standup-A-Rooney.”
In this exclusive first look, Bragg’s character is pumped to perform at local restaurant Chips and Chuckles, but a case of stage fright threatens to end his comedy career before it even begins. Bragg, who began performing standup at age 13, wrote the comedy routine that his character (eventually) performs, and he says the episode is his favorite of the series.
“Having my character do standup was something we always wanted, and it was definitely my favorite episode to shoot,” Bragg tells Yahoo TV. “We treated the standup like a comedy special, and I had creative freedom to write as much as I wanted. I wrote about 10 minutes of material, and we filmed it in one or two takes.”
Of course, just like his character, Bragg is nervous about how the Disney audience will respond to his routine, but he tells us: “I got what I was pretty sure were real laughs from the extras in the scene.”
The “Standup-A-Rooney” episode of Liv and Maddie: Cali Style premieres on Jan. 6 at 5:30 p.m. on Disney Channel.
