'The Little Mermaid': Melissa McCarthy Seems VERY Interested In Playing Ursula

Is Melissa McCarthy the right choice for Ursula the sea witch?

The Disney Reboots Continue

Disney is hellbent on remaking all of their classic animated films for new audiences, and with the wild success of Aladdin and The Lion King, audiences seem to be onboard with these "live action" remakes.

Next up is Mulan and then The Little Mermaid, and it's safe to say that people are interested.

The Cast Is Coming Together

When actress and singer Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel, there was some racist backlash, but fans have largely been excited about her casting and have been creating some beautiful fan art to honor her version of Ariel.

Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay have been officially announced as Scuttle and Flounder, and it is rumored that Harry Styles will be Prince Eric. Another actor rumored to join the cast is Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.

She Knows The Movie Inside And Out

While visiting Jimmy Kimmel Live!, McCarthy teased the audience with a wink when Kimmel asked about the rumors that she would be the fearsome sea witch.

"What's that? I hadn't heard about that. It seems like it will be an awfully fun thing to do. Oh, I'd love if Disney gave me a little ringy dingy. We'll see. If it did happen, it would be very wonderful, Disney."

She Doesn't Want To Embarrass Her Daughters

McCarthy explained that she knew the original movie extremely well and that she has been a longtime fan.

"I feel like everyone has watched that. I was a nanny when it first came out and one of the little girls I was watching, we watched it every single night for about a year and a half. No, I'm not kidding at all. I'm like, I know it. I know it to my core and I weirdly still love it."

However, she mostly wants to avoid embarrassing her two young daughters.

"They were like, 'really?' There's also a little whisper of like, 'Oh God. Don't embarrass me.'"

Do you think McCarthy is the right actor for the job?
