'Little Mermaid' Is Coming To TV With Auli'I Cravalho As Ariel, Queen Latifah As Ursula

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Little Mermaid, Disney will soon air a live action/animated special with Auli'l Cravalho playing Ariel, Queen Latifah as Ursula and plenty more stars.

The Queen Returns

The special, "The Wonderful World of Disney Presents The Little Mermaid Live!," will air Nov. 5.

Cravalho originally starred in Moana, while many know Queen Latifah either from her hip-hop days or from playing "Mama" Morton in the movie Chicago, or from Beauty Shop.

Shaggy Under the Sea

What may be the most perfect casting is Shaggy as Sebastian, that svelte red crab who spends his days crooning classic songs like "Under the Sea."

This live-action event has been on ABC's mind since at least 2017, when plans for the production were put on ice in August 2017.This version will blend scenes from the original film with live musical performances.

Landing Nov. 5

This news comes on the heels of the success of those live productions of "All In the Family" and "The Jeffersons" that aired in May.

The live-action feature film of The Little Mermaid will star Halle Bailey as the lead character, Awkwafina as Scuttle and Jacob Tremblay as Flounder. Melissa McCarthy may play Ursula in that film, with Harry Styles rumored to be Prince Eric.
