Little Kid So Doesn’t Want to Smile For Local Reporter In Awkward Exchange

KTLA reporter Wendy Burch was live on the scene at Big Air Trampoline Park in Buena Park, California, for Leap Day. It was great: She got dodgeballs hurled at her, she almost ate it live on the air, and she coerced a child into smiling. Noticing a shy child standing near her, Burch beckoned the little one. “Come on over here, my friend, come on over here,” she said. “Do you like to jump?”

When the child responded with a meek “yes,” Burch noticed the absence of a smile. “You look a little sad about jumping,” she said to the boy. “Would you give me a big jump smile?” What happened was a quick, forced smile that quickly transformed back into a glum face. “There you go — see what I’m saying?” Burch said before laughing at the awkwardness she just experienced.
